  • Author: Administrator
  • Total Time: 30
  • Yield: 2-3 1x

Description

Savory and delicious gluten free cheese scones in less than 30 minutes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup flour (I used GF)
  • 1 cup milk (I used oat milk)
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard
  • cayenne pepper (up to you, I use about 1/3 tsp)
  • salt and pepper

Optional Extras

  • Coriander finely chopped
  • Chives or spring onion finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Set your oven to 390 deg F
  2. In a bowl, mix all dry ingredients (be sure to sieve the flour) and stir.
  3. Add the milk, grated cheese, and mustard, then stirring together quickly while making sure all the flour lumps are mixed in – the batter will be quite liquidy.
  4. Grease a muffin tray (makes 8) and add the batter equally. Bake for 15 mins.
  5. Serve as is with butter, or scrambled eggs if you like (make the eggs while the scones are in the oven). Enjoy!

Notes

This recipe was from my grandmother, and like all things during that time, was made with flour and dairy. To make this better for my needs, I have used GF flour, and oat milk instead of dairy milk. Feel free to use the OG ingredients if you like. The only thing I kept as is was the cheddar cheese. I don’t often eat dairy, but for these I decided to treat myself.

GF Flour – the best GF flour I’ve found is from Bob’s Red Mill, link below!

Cheese – because I don’t eat cheese often, I can’t tell you much on what the best brand is, but what I do know is the yellow cheddar is dyed, whereas the white is not. So, I always go for the white as I prefer things to be as natural as possible! I’m sure you can experiment with different types cheeses in these scones, so have fun with it!
